Spirit of Grit in the City

Created for a city-themed show titled GRIT for Copley Society entry. Here is my interpretation of what that word means to me when thinking about a city. I see the contrasts of the grit as it becomes the foil for the brilliant colors that jump out of the neutral greys of dirt, asphalt, stone, cement. The overly simplified shapes suggesting buildings or subways or pathways and roads serve to connect and disconnect along the way. Blues act as a background of sky, reflections in water and a color that unifies the whole.
