Day Full of Home
by Ann Trainor Domingue
Not for sale. This painting began with random marks made on a gessoed wood panel. I frequently do this to begin a piece in order to create a textured/rough surface to build upon. I've never preferred smooth surfaces and enjoy the interplay of paint moving over a rough surface, leaving some surface untouched and others covered in paint. This unexpected effect has been something I have continued using in recent work. As I work, I come to a point where I need to define a design of shapes and then work to make all the elements relate to each other in a settled way.
