In Spite of It All

This painting is painted over a previous painting. I like doing this as it becomes just a base of color and shapes for a new work. In this case, I had a small thumbnail drawing of two people/fishing family, and drew a rough outline placing them on the old painting. Then I gave a lot of thought to what parts of the underpainting could I keep, while bringing a new color palette to the new elements. I like the freshness of the burnt sienna outlines and the casual nature of the fish. Determining what goes and what stays is not an easy thing.
