I have frequently used pieces of fabric in my work although in this case I have brought the feeling of frayed edges and woven textures by using layers of paint. I'm finding when I play with a lot of color on the underpainting I can then bring some order to the chaos as I define a design on the top layer but still allowing the underlayer to show through. Sounds like living our life. Plenty of layers that build our foundation and then later top layers that rise to the top allowing the best of what is below to show through.
