This painting began as a color series of marks and shapes, layered, scraped to show undercolors. I began before the Ukraine invasion by Russia. It seemed a bit chaotic in how I began the piece but then it suited how I felt while watching the unimaginable unfold for the Ukrainian people. I then began to work with the blue and yellow of their flag to show my concern for the people being overrun. So difficult to imagine leaving home as they have had to do. I worked this with shapes of homes and imagery of the Ukrainian flag along with a couple of sunflowers to show hope for the future as the long days and nights go on. Praying for peace for the people of Ukraine. Closer to home I hope for the chaos to quiet and that we all return to respecting our differing opinions and honoring our country's founding tenets of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and individual freedoms.
