Daybreak Portsmouth

The cool shadow side of the Portsmouth NH waterfront is the subject matter depicted in this piece. I have taken liberties with some of the details and lighting effects as I wanted to create a more dynamic painting than what I captured in my snapshot and sketches. The hot white light on the passing lobster boat was an actual sight as I sketched this land and seascape early one morning. The barricade of buildings that block the sunlight but allow interesting peeks at the light were very captivating. Late afternoon of course would have provided a completely different view but I have enjoyed working with this shadowed side of the busy downtown of Portsmouth. Also available as a print.
