Current Location: Copley Society of Art Boston

Plein air painting created for the Copley Society of Art annual fundraiser. I was positioned at the south end of the Copley Plaza on Boylston Street facing the Trinity Church shown in this image. Wonderful details and architecture to play with. I did a few small sketches first to get a feel for just how much of this fantastic building I could include in my limited size of 15x15. I drew with a Lyra colored pencil first in a warm purple tone, then dipped a whittled stick into permanent black ink and drew a layer highlighting the details and taking great liberties with the form of the facade. As people enjoyed themselves on the grassy area in the foreground I sketched in some of this activity in the foreground of this piece. Hope you enjoy the view.
