This painting is part of a series of works exploring the shapes of sails and back lighting during a sailing race in Provincetown, MA. The strong back lighting against the darks of the landscape brings an unusual design option to my mind. I was looking at white sails against a bright blue sky in reality, but when the boat moved across my viewing area it occurred to me that handling the color scheme differently than the local color would present more interesting options. Hope you agree.
