From Pines to Palms
by Ann Trainor Domingue
I receive many comments about my sketchbook work and decided to greatly enlarge pages to demonstrate my thought process as I develop new work. You'll see elements layered here as I consider working with palm trees (inspired by trips to Caribbean and Florida) and pine trees ever prominent all over New England. Red roof tops of Ste. Martin to fishhouses of Maine are shown together as I think over how to marry the two in new work. I repeat motifs I love and explore how to use them in new designs and compositions. I also date most pages and add notes about something that stood out to me that particular day with no intention of using them in the work. I hold the idea on paper to refer back to on a long winter's night. Or a gorgeous summer day.
