Morning Light at Work Portland
by Ann Trainor Domingue
I've taken many photos of the Portland Harbor Fish Market wharf over the years. Sometimes there are people working to bring catch to the store, other times it's quiet as can be with the exception of ever-loud seagulls waiting impatiently. This morning I was able to capture some people at work with dramatic lighting. In this painting I've tried to capture the scruffiness of the building and details that are necessary to do the work. The fisherman is helping unload a catch providing me with a very real stance with light and shadow full of details for me to keep or eliminate. This softened color approach with casually-drawn lines brings a more expressive feeling to this painting.
